The Padauk Wood this Cremation Urn is Made From

The Padauk comes from the same stock as a beautiful turned and carved cremation urn that I made. Click to a database to learn more about the tree in its habitat.

I just love the sudden transition of color between the burgundy colored heartwood and the cream sapwood. This is naturally occurring and is not laminated that way, nor have I applied any stain or pigment. The picture in the lower left corner is to give you an idea of the color pallet. This may vary from monitor to monitor so I can also describe it as a red wine color that leans more toward bright red. It really is an exquisite color and the depth is extraordinary especially when you consider I applied no stain. Every person I have shone this to has said it looks better than the picture.

I acquired the mahogany along with some very nice tools from an elderly lady’s workshop. It seems that she was quite the busy bee in her abler days and quite talented at that.

I like this one for its resemblance to attire that would be worn at a special occasion. For me, it invokes a picture of a handsome nobleman's tie and cummerbund, or of a flowing dress at 17th century royal gala.

I made the lid out of the same piece of mahogany as the middle band. I depicted it with a wedding band (not included) around the spire as a suggestion. The very tip is a carved recess.

You may see different things in this piece, but that is the beauty of art.

I always show my work to my friends and this one is more often the favorite. You won't find one like it anywhere else.

As all of our works, each piece is signed and woodburned in.
